At the suggestion of a participant (Sharon Gullett), I am embedding a Google Map to represent all of the school districts (50) and vendors (7) who attended our conference this year. We had nearly 300 in attendance. This is a rough estimate given to me by several different people who attended including a vendor. It was a bigger crowd than we had last year, for sure.

TechEdge. Keynote Speaker - David JakesRevisioning Learning Spaces Envision rows of desks. The front of the room. Bulletin boards and whiteboards. Textbooks and notebooks. Raise your hand….
It’s not hard to recognize the typical classroom. They haven’t changed much. And while we can honor all the learning that has taken place in that space, there is more. Today, our students have an opportunity to learn within an ever-expanding learning space, one that is filled with opportunities to seek on-demand learning, and learning that is free from the constraints of time, space, and place. Join David Jakes as we revision together the concept of learning spaces, and how schools can not only leverage the affordances of digital technologies to support the traditional concept of learning space, but how schools can also create exciting and transformative spaces that extend learning into different dimensions.
David Jakes has spent 25 years in education as a teacher, staff developer, and technology coordinator. From his first Macintosh Classic to his current netbook, he has witnessed firsthand the changes in education that educational technology has empowered. Jakes shares this knowledge as a frequent speaker at technology conferences across the United States, as well as in Canada, Europe, and most recently,China. His interests in educational technology include digital storytelling, the application of geography-based systems for learning, and developing online communities of learning through blogging, wiki and other connective technologies. He currently maintains a web site (Jakesonline.org), a blog (The Strength of Weak Ties), and a variety of other resources (David Jakes Presentation Resources) dedicated to improving the use of technology in education. White Oak ISD is excited to be the host for the 2010 conference. We hope you enjoy your experience. Course categories
